Imam of Ka’ba leads thousands in Maghrib Prayer at Jama Masjid Delhi

By TCN Staff Reporter,
New Delhi: For one, it looked today was Eid. The historic grand Shahjahani Masjid of Delhi, popularly known as Jama Masjid, was packed more than capacity. The occasion was the presence of the Imam of Grand Haram Sharif of Makkah Shaikh Abdur Rahman Al-Sudais. He led thousands in the Maghrib Prayer at the mosque.

The Imam is in India for a week, and it seems for the common Muslims here the touch of faith runs deeper. Wherever he goes thousands and thousands turn up to hear him and to offer prayer behind him.

On Friday he was at Darul Uloom Deoband where he led the Juma Prayer. On Saturday he led about 50 thousand people at Maghrib Prayer in New Delhi at a conference on Sahaba (companions of the Prophet) organized by the Jamiat Ulama faction led by Arshad Madani.

And today he was at the Jama Masjid. To see him and to offer prayer behind him, Muslims gathered from across the city and neighborhood. Before the prayer the Imam of Ka’ba addressed the gathering. In his speech he stressed the need of unity among the Muslim Ummah on the globe.

Tonight Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan is hosting dinner for the Imam. Tomorrow he will be attending a program at India Islamic Cultural Center.
